"Is it possible that we have never seen Nature, but only
our notions of Nature?"
- Bruce Sterling
If that is the case, can we assume that the Western world comes to understand Nature via the man-made? In a product-orientated society Nature becomes a cultural category, as evidenced by design which claims to refer to it. I propose that the images, objects and experiences we create in reference to Nature are a reaction to the wild and unfathomable environment we find ourselves in. They translate the idea of Nature into a constantly evolving narrative which enables us come to terms with an otherwise overwhelming notion.
